Our local dairy farm, namely Hoeve de Werkhorst, is a place I visit several times a week for fresh produce. De haan, with his lady friends, would frequently greet visitors on arrival at the farm.  De haan and his ladies were very popular with the farm's visitors and on warm days (when visitors are sitting outside enjoying the beautiful scenery) they would walk around the terrace to see if anyone has any delicious leftover cake (home baked by Janneke). De haan, being a real gentleman, always ensured his ladies ate the cake crumbs first before allowing himself to take part in the treats. Sadly de haan crossed the bridge in autumn of 2024 and is much missed by all his ladies and visitors to the farm.

Although de haan is not connected to Konijnenparadijs, Hoeve de Werkhorst has supported the sanctuary from the very beginning of Blackberry's Friends. Janneke generously gave a lovely space in her shop to sell the cards and prints. As de haan was so popular with visitors,  together we agreed that his portrait should be painted.
